Our Local Council

Until 1994, Phillip Island was a Shire in it’s own right. That year the Victorian government restructured local government throughout the state. They dissolved 210 councils, sacked 1600 elected councillors, and created 78 new councils through amalgamations.

The Shire of Phillip Island was amalgamated with the Shire of Bass, the Borough of Wonthaggi, and parts of the Shires of Woorayl, Korumburra and Cranbourne to form the Bass Coast Shire. This is our current Council.
