Darrell Silva

VEC Candidate Statement

My name is Darrell Silva and have a Master of Applied Finance and a Medical Science degree. Now retired, I have experience in international consulting and project collaboration. I have been a resident in Cowes for 10 years and am a member of the Cowes Yacht Club and Phillip Island RSL. I believe in Council transparency and accountability, especially when dealing with ratepayer finances. By listening directly to ratepayers, I will understand the community needs and be enabled to take appropriate action. I will lobby for an annual review of multi-year council plans and programs taking into consideration the evolving needs of the Phillip Island community and Island visitors. Examples of long term planning needs are, Cowes parking strategy; holiday season waste (Red Bin) management; Cowes streetscape; strategy to address erosion of the northern shoreline. I am in favour of bike tracks and trails, but not at the expense of native foreshore bushland. I will support green energy initiatives where commercial viable. My experience in finance and dealing with large corporations will be invaluable in Council and for the community. A vote for me is a vote for our Island.
